Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project
Project Background
Lingnan University’s Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) is one of the four gerontology research institutes in Hong Kong awarded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. This project aims to develop an age-friendly community, promote public awareness and encourage community participation.
The project aims to assess the age-friendliness of the eight pilot districts in eight domains suggested by World Health Organization, namely social participation; transportation; communication and information; outdoor spaces and buildings; respect and social inclusion; civic participation and employment; housing; and community support and health services. The project has shed light on three priority directions for action, namely building Hong Kong into a more age-friendly city for people of different ages; encouraging the elderly to participate in community activities; and promoting social inclusion.
Under the project, APIAS is responsible for conducting baseline assessment studies, arranging training activities and providing other professional support in the four districts of Tsuen Wan, Islands District, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long.

Age-friendly City Project - Ambassador Scheme
In order to promote and encourage the public to understand the concepts of Age-friendly city, the professional support teams from four local universities provided training and workshops to the elderly and other groups in 18 districts in Hong Kong to encourage them to become active ambassadors. The ambassador scheme helps to promote the AFC concepts and spread along the caring actions to the elders. Since January 2022, Lingnan University responsible to further sustain the momentum of the AFC ambassador scheme and target to extend their passion and excel this knowledge, take actions to make Hong Kong a more liveable city for people of all ages.

Ambassador Training Manual (Updated Version)
The Ambassador Training Manual (Updated Version) integrates the experience from the professional support teams of Age-friendly City Project conduct ambassador training in the community by the four university partners, and hopes to transfer knowledge and bring insights to the future ambassador training.

Age-friendly Tour Card Game
The design of the “Age-friendly Tour” card game refers to the baseline assessment of Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project, combined with the current situation of Hong Kong society. Players are able to understand the eight domains of age-friendly city and the level of age-friendliness in Hong Kong through playing this game.
