If someone had told me a few months ago that I’d be standing on a mountaintop in Hong Kong, laughing with people from across the globe—sharing bubble tea stories, language blunders, and late-night escapades—I would have raised an eyebrow and thought, “Let’s see.”
And then I chose Hong Kong. Not just for its breathtaking skyline, reminiscent of a paused sci-fi movie, or the mouthwatering food (though, let’s be honest, pineapple buns at 2 AM deserve their own fanbase). I chose Hong Kong for its vibrant rhythm—a city that dances between cultures and pulses with life. I longed to feel that beat.
Why Lingnan? Because I didn’t want to simply study abroad; I wanted to truly belong. At Lingnan, you don’t just pass by people—you walk alongside them. Professors greeted us by name, classmates shared their personal stories, and even the security guards waved as if we were old friends.
Our excursions were more than just trips; they were storybook moments. You pause, breathe in the fresh air, and realize you’re crafting memories that will replay in your mind for years to come. As for our late-night adventures, those tales are best cherished in our hearts, filled with nostalgia and a touch of mischief.

Hong Kong is an interesting and vibrant city with a lot to offer. There are many cultural events and art exhibitions, and many boroughs that are worth exploring. At the same time, the landscape and nature are stunning, with its mountains and beaches. I enjoy living on campus, the area is quite relaxed and getting to classes takes just a few minutes.
The excursion was a great opportunity to meet other exchange and local students while exploring the city. I enjoyed the museum visit and learning more about Cantonese culture, as well as the big wheel ride afterwards, which offered fantastic views of Hong Kong's skyline.
Hong Kong has always been my dream destination for both career and travel. I feel majestic in the city while participating in my summer program at Lingnan University. The vibrant culture and dynamic atmosphere have made this experience truly unforgettable.
My home university, NYU, provided me with the incredible opportunity of a full-ride scholarship for the Lingnan University Summer Institute, covered by AALAU. I was determined to secure this spot for myself, and it has been a rewarding journey so far.
Being an exchange student at LU has been a fantastic experience, allowing me access to nearly everything the university has to offer. One standout feature is the swimming pool, which is quite rare on a university campus. I am grateful for my current situation and hope the rest of my program continues to be even more successful and productive. A heartfelt thanks to LU and NYU for making this all possible!
My first interaction with Hong Kong was probably when I was very young and my father had to come here for some business meet. I don't remember anything about the business, but I do remember that he brought me a lot of fancy hairclips and other such knick-knacks.
I remember loving wearing those at the time. Ever since, that had been my only exposure to Hong Kong. But much later I realised that Hong Kong has a lot more to offer. When I saw the opportunity of an exchange programme at Lingnan, I jumped at it, knowing I would take back so much from it. Hong Kong today is a centre of culture and art. I have had some of the best experiences on my life during my time here, and I cannot wait to have more.
Lingnan University and Hong Kong have helped me come out of my shell in ways I can't yet articulate. I am very grateful for this opportunity. And now I can get myself those fancy hairclips and knick-knacks too!
On the 16th of May my exchange at Lingnan University came to an end. It has been the best 6 months of my life. I have met great people, taken amazing courses, met amazing teachers, and had amazing experiences on-campus. It has been fantastic.
My experience at Lingnan was amazing, and I fell in love with the campus, the people and the city.
Hong Kong is the perfect study abroad destination! I love nature, and the city offers plenty of it. Almost everyone speaks English, making it easy to explore on your own or in small international groups.
Lingnan's location in the New Territories is a true gem. While some may see its distance from Kowloon and Central as a downside, I appreciate the authentic culture here— from the people and food to the temples and nature, everything feels genuine. One of my happiest moments was hiking with a local friend. After a challenging six-hour trek, we sat on a cliff overlooking Kowloon, enjoying lunch and marveling at the city's beauty from afar.
I'm Victoria Ehresmann, studying for a year on exchange at Lingnan University. I chose Hong Kong for its rich culture and Lingnan's excellent programs and activities.
The support from staff has been invaluable, and I haven't felt homesick. After three months, there’s still so much to explore at Lingnan and in Hong Kong. A highlight was hiking Lion Rock, where the view was breathtaking.
Hong Kong captivates me with its diversity, from beaches and hikes to vibrant city life. I'm grateful for this opportunity at Lingnan and excited for what's next!
