Balayan Livelihood Project
The Balayan Livelihood Project explored the paths to the betterment of Filipino farmers’ lives. Through an intense week of fieldwork and interviews with stakeholders, LU students gathered useful information of local agricultural practices and conditions. Based on the findings, a pilot project focusing on product development, crop diversification, two irrigation techniques and crop resilience is designed to improve the yield and hence the income of farmers. The proposal received positive responses from the local government and farmers.

Gubat 3.0 Project
The Gubat 3.0 Project is a continuation of the Gubat 2.0 Project in Winter Academy 2024. In a hope to spark curiosity and engagement with STEM principles among local youth, LU students constructed hydroponic farming facilities at Tilambo National High School to provide hands-on demonstrations of agricultural technology. They also produced a detailed instructional video guide, equipping students in nearby elementary and secondary school with the knowledge to replicate the hydroponic setups themselves.

Paraiso Village Project
Founded by Tony Meloto, Paraiso Village is a pioneer in advocating “Blue Zone”, a concept of active ageing. The Village provides the senior citizens in the Philippines with a healthy and self-sufficient living space. In support of this meaningful vision, LU students spent time exploring the village and having deep conversations with the founder and residents. Understanding the lives and stories of the villager, they designed a website and developed materials to promote the village and the Blue Zone concept not just to Filipinos, but also to people around the world.

Summer Day Camp Project
The 7-day summer camp at the Talahib Pandayan Daycare Center not only imparted knowledge to young children, but also spiced up their lives through cultural exchange. With the support of BSU students, LU students deepened their understanding of the needs and abilities of local children and tailored a spectrum of interactive learning activities for them. Each day is themed with different subjects, from art to sports, from music to science. LU students also initiated a revamp to improve the use of space in the Daycare Center.

Waste Entrepreneurship Project
The Waste Entrepreneurship Project focused the waste management issues in the Philippines. Through first-hand observation and interviews, the student team gained deep insights into the daily work of waste collectors and the operations of informal junk shops in the Batangas. Leveraging these learnings, LU students produced a powerful documentary that sheds light on the living conditions of waste collectors and the systemic issues within the waste management ecosystem.
