Prof Song Yongduan

About

Professor Song Yongduan is the Dean of the School of Data Science and Henry Y. W. Fong Chair Professor of Industrial Data Science in the Division of Industrial Data Science at Lingnan University.

Professor Song is an internationally renowned scientist who contributed in reliable neuroadaptive control systems. His research interests are broad and include intelligent systems, guidance, navigation, and control, as well as bio-inspired adaptive and cooperative systems, with a particular focus on data-driven control and machine learning methodologies.

Professor Song was elected as a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) (中国工程院外籍院士) in November 2025. He is also an IEEE Fellow, a Fellow of the Chinese Association of Automation, and a Fellow of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. Professor Song has published 12 books and over 400 scientific papers in top journals, and holds approximately 100 patents issued by China, the USA, and Japan. He has received numerous research grants from NSF, ONR, NASA, DOE, etc. He has made significant contributions to the academic community through his role as an Associate Editor for several prestigious international journals, including several leading IEEE journals. Currently, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. He has been recognised as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for multiple consecutive years and has been listed as one of the most highly cited researchers by Clarivate since 2021. He previously served as the Founding Director of the Center for Cooperative Systems at the National Institute of Aerospace (2005–2008) and as the Dean of the School of Automation at Chongqing University (2012–2022).
