Dialogues on the Edge: Ecological Art as Intervention in Hong Kong
In an era of ecological collapse and climate emergency, how can art move beyond representation and become meaningful intervention?
Join DACI for a talk exploring eco-art as a critical space for dialogue between humanity and the environment. Through global case studies, a brief demo, and an open discussion, we’ll rethink the boundaries between art and nature, and examine how artists in Hong Kong respond to local environmental challenges—transforming observation into evocative works and real engagement with place.

The Sow Must Go On: WMA, Artistic Strategies, and Hong Kong Today
In this sharing, Elaine Lin introduces the vision and practice of WMA, a Hong Kong-based non-profit art platform dedicated to promoting social awareness through lens-based art. Drawing from WMA’s recent initiative, "The Sow Must Go On", she will discuss how art can act as both a mirror and a catalyst for civic awareness in the society. The talk will also reflect on what it means to pursue a professional path in the art and culture field today—the opportunities, challenges, and questions that remain essential for sustaining creative integrity in a changing cultural landscape.

張國麟，香港註冊建築師，曾於紐約及倫敦的建築事務所任職，擁有超過十五年建築師經驗。他主理「一口設計工作室」 及「一口舍群」所有技術層面的工作，透過嶄新方法改善公共空間，並推動城市創新。
他也涉足展覽策劃，現擔任正在舉行為期三年的西貢海藝術節的策展人。他更擁有城市分析碩士學位，探索如何於建築領域上提升使用城市大數據的潛力，並透過「一口」的URBAN MATTERS平台使城市數據普及化。

PhD Candidate of Visual Studies
ZHU Yi is studying PhD at the Department of Visual Studies, Lingnan University. Yi completed her bachelor’s degree at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. She also holds a MA degree from the University of Bristol and an MPhil degree in Visual Studies from Lingnan University. Her research focuses on museum studies, digital display, and art education. The interdisciplinary studies and translational experiences inspired her to research art museums and digital culture.

Immerse yourself in a series of engaging events and workshops designed to give you a taste of what our programme has to offer.
Macro Photography Workshop
The macro photography workshop will consist of three parts. The activity will unfold as follows:
Introduction to Skills and Lighting Setup:
The workshop will begin with a brief presentation that introduces participants to the essential skills required for macro photography. This will include discussions on camera settings, lens selection, and the importance of lighting in capturing detailed close-up images. Participants will also learn about various techniques such as focus stacking and the use of reflectors and diffusers to enhance their photographs.
Group Photo Session:
After the introductory session, participants will be divided into small groups to engage in hands-on practice. Each group will be tasked with exploring a designated area to capture macro images together. This collaborative approach encourages teamwork, allowing participants to share ideas and techniques while experimenting with different subjects and compositions. Instructors will be available to provide guidance and support during this creative process.
Mutual Appreciation and Feedback:
Following the photo session, participants will regroup to share their best images and discuss their experiences. This segment will focus on mutual appreciation, where participants can provide positive feedback and constructive criticism to one another. This reflective practice will not only foster a sense of community but also help students refine their skills by learning from each other’s perspectives and approaches.

Print and Preservation: Chinese Books Beyond Technology
An interdisciplinary project examining and promoting the legacy, study, and preservation of Chinese printed books
Presented by the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) and sponsored by the Chamber of Young Snow Distinguished Visiting Scholars Programme, Print and Preservation: Chinese Books Beyond Technology is an interdisciplinary research project curated by the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall in collaboration with the Centre for Film and Creative Industries and the Master of Arts in Curating and Art History programme. As the title suggests, this project aims to explore the history and technology of book printing and its sustainable development, and to promote the connection and dialogue between tradition and the contemporary. From 26 March to 5 April 2024, one symposium, three public talks, a collectors' sharing session, two experiential workshops and a showcase will be held, focusing on the imperial printed books of the Ming dynasty, surveying the evolution of Chinese bookmaking technology from woodblock to digital printing in the past and present, and looking into the relationship between various fields such as publishing, politics, gender, and cultural transmission.

Hsin-Chien Huang is a new media artist, VR director, and educator. He has served as the Art Director for SEGA and SONY Computer Entertainment in the United States. His VR works have won avvards such as the Best VR Experience at the Venice Film Festival, the Jury Award at SXSW, and the Best VR Story at Cannes XR. This lecture will share the speaker's XR creations like Chalkroom, To The Moon, Bodyless, Samsara, and include trend analysis and experiences from participating 1n international film festivals.

The Ordinary Matters—An Exhibition about Reality and Affect

Presented by the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI), "The Ordinary Matters" showcases artist Jing Y.'s creative works in collaboration with five individuals from various social classes that she has encountered during her journeys across urban and rural villages in China, which includes drawings, installation, video, photographic prints, and creative writing. The exhibition explores themes of family relationships, work experiences, and personal values from the perspectives of marginalized communities. The exhibition also highlights Jing Y.'s collaboration with female domestic workers in China through the initiative "Sweat! Stop! Rewrite!" and other collaborative projects. Additionally, the exhibition introduces a recent experimental educational space for migrant families established by a group of educators.

The Origins of the South Korean Film Renaissance Conference

The Origins of the South Korean Film Renaissance is an international film studies conference scheduled for November 2-4, 2023, in Hong Kong. The three-day academic conference is a collaborative effort between the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) at Lingnan University and the Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington (UW). This event is also being organized in partnership with M+ Cinema and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong. The event is supported by the Academy of Korean Studies, UW’s Center for Korea Studies and East Asia Center, and Lingnan University's Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer (ORKT) and Center for Film and Creative Industries (CFCI).
The conference will bring together leading scholars of South Korean and Asian cinemas from Asia-Pacific, the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America to present their new research findings and new developments in methodology. It will examine the 1990s film cultures and industries in South Korea and the ways in which the transformation of the industries, the emergence of the media conglomerates, cinematheque movements, the birth of the Busan international film festival, the proliferation of the film schools, new film journalism, translations of film studies textbooks and theories, digital technologies and portable dvcam, and the IMF crisis and dot-com revolution laid the groundwork for the renaissance of South Korean cinema.
This conference was supported by the 2023 Korean Studies Grant Program of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS-2023-C-002).
