“The Ordinary Matters” Exhibition Matterport

“The Ordinary Matters” is an exhibition presented by the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) in Jan-Feb 2024, which features the artworks created by artist Jing Y. in collaboration with the individuals from urban and rural China. The exhibition explores hidden stories that exist on the fringes of society and addresses the themes of family relationships, work experiences, and personal values from the perspectives of marginalized communities. The exhibition is divided into three sections that showcase Jing Y.’s artistic path, exploration of realism, as well as collaboration with individuals, and records of socially engaged projects since 2019. The projects include “Sweat! Stop! Rewrite!” Project, which aims to reshape female migrant workers’ sense of self and their relationships with the world through creativity, and an experimental educational space established for migrant families.

Through these projects, the exhibition seeks to inspire and capture the emotional states and expressions of marginalized groups in response to societal issues related to economics and education. The goal is to adopt collective learning as a form of empowerment and self-help for these people, and to cultivate a better educational environment that gradually leads to individual and community transformation.
