Enhancement of the Access Control System with AI face-recognition features

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a secure, modern, and seamless experience on campus, the University is undertaking a major upgrade to our physical access control system to incorporate state-of-the-art facial recognition technology in addition to the option of tapping LU cards.

The new system utilises advanced biometric technology to grant access to campus facilities. By simply looking at a sensor device by the door, the system processes facial profiles instantly to allow access, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted flow of foot traffic. The technology is built with privacy at its core. Facial profiles are securely converted and stored as mathematical templates rather than viewable photographs, ensuring your personal data is fully protected and compliant with privacy policies.
 

Unlike physical smartcards, which can be lost, stolen, or shared, biometric access ensures that only authorised individuals can enter designated areas, significantly boosting overall campus safety.

This exciting technological rollout began at the offices of the President and Vice-Presidents, and will be on larger-scale trial at the new T-Plus campus before expanding to other areas of the campus in the near future. While registration is entirely voluntary, ITSC highly encourages all staff and students to opt in. This is a significant milestone of the University to pave the way for a truly smart campus.
