Phase 2 HPC Data Centre at WJY Lingnan Hub
Following the successful launch of the first HPC Data Centre in February 2025, namely HPC NexT to stand for the nexus of HPC technology, and the rapid utilization of the HPC resources and other hardware system, ITSC proactively planned for Phase 2 and is proud to launch the second HPC Data Centre on the LG/F at the WJY Lingnan Hub (WLH) in October 2026.
To effectively support advanced HPC services, the new facility employs cutting-edge liquid cooling technologies, specifically Spray Liquid Cooling and Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC).
These two systems serve the following functions:
Spray Liquid Cooling System:
This system cools the servers by circulating an insulating dielectric coolant that is sprayed directly onto the server chips to absorb heat, which is then dissipated via outdoor radiators.Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) System:
Also known as direct-to-chip cooling, this system removes heat from high-wattage processors by circulating a specialized coolant through cold plates mounted directly on the chips.
By incorporating both technologies, HPC NexT Phase 2 can flexibly host servers designed for either cooling method. With these advanced cooling capabilities, which are the first deployment in Hong Kong, HPC NexT Phase 2 represents a high-performance, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and future-proof investment that perfectly complements the University’s existing HPC resources.
