Programmes

The Faculty of Arts includes seven academic departments, two Language Centres and six Research Centres. It currently offers 8 undergraduate major programmes for first year intake, and 3 undergraduate major programmes for senior year intake. Many programmes are interdisciplinary in nature. All majors offer advanced studies in their respective fields, allowing interested students to pursue postgraduate studies and simultaneously acquire important transferable skills such as textual and logical analysis, and effective written and spoken communication. These skills prepare our graduates for careers in business, government, creative industries, education, and many more.

Lingnan’s Faculty of Social Sciences is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the fields of economics, government and international affairs, psychology, sociology and social policy. The range of programmes on offer equips students with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to address the complex and evolving challenges of the contemporary world, in particular those of the fast-moving digital era. Students have numerous opportunities to gain practical and professional experience through a variety of workshops, placements, internships, field trips, and research projects. Each programme also fosters a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to learning by valuing independent thought and the concept of global citizenship.

Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) positions at the fusion of excellence of interdisciplinary research and education, which is centred around sustainability and underpinned by fundamental engineering science for a smart future. In preparation for the evolving landscapes of future industries, it provides a diverse choice of interdisciplinary programmes and general education courses, as well as innovative activities which draw on the expertise of different faculties and departments. Its programmes analyse global issues and real-world cases from multiple perspectives, providing students with a broader and deeper understanding of the underlying causes and challenges. By adopting the interdisciplinary approach integrates insights from Lingnan faculty members specialising in the arts, business, social sciences and science, the programmes open up new ideas and avenues of inquiry, and highlighting how different fields of study can complement and interconnect. SIS programmes are carefully designed to feature rich opportunities for experiential learning. These include research projects, site visits, field trips, internships, overseas exchanges, service learning, and capstone projects. The comprehensive approach aims to bridge theory and practice, enhancing students’ academic experience and expanding career options.

Lingnan’s School of Data Science (SDS) is dedicated to advancing the field of data analytics, a pivotal discipline that empowers organisations to extract valuable insights from extensive datasets, enhancing decision-making and innovation. We cultivate an environment that fosters a deep understanding of the principles, methodologies, and tools underpinning effective data analytics. SDS comprises the Division of Artificial Intelligence, the Division of Industrial Data Science, and the LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science, providing a comprehensive curriculum that integrates both theoretical and practical aspects. Our faculty members hail from prestigious academies and societies including the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, highly cited researchers, and fellows of esteemed organisations such as the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, the U.S. National Academy of Inventors, the International Federation of Automatic Control, and IEEE fellows, to name a few. Our extensive partnerships with industry leaders and research institutions provide students with exposure to real-world datasets, access to cutting-edge tools and technologies, and opportunities for internships and industry projects.
