Building a Secure, High-Power, and Self-Defending Wired Network

To complement our wireless advancements, we have overhauled the University’s underlying wired infrastructure. By replacing legacy hardware with Multigigabit and POE++ switches, we have transformed our network from a collection of "managed boxes" into a unified, intelligent fabric.
Multigigabit & POE++ Capability
Addressing the exponential surge in data-intensive tasks, our new infrastructure supports Multigigabit Ethernet (IEEE 802.3bz). The "pipes" have been widened to deliver 2.5GbE, 5GbE, and 10GbE speeds, providing the necessary backhaul for Wi-Fi 7. Additionally, the implementation of POE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) allows the network to deliver high-wattage power to smart devices, security cameras, and LED lighting, eliminating the need for additional electrical outlets and reducing our physical footprint.
The Centralized Network Brain: Orchestration and Automation
We have transitioned from manual, device-by-device configuration to a full-scale automated orchestration platform. This shift allows the ITSC to manage the entire campus network as a single, unified entity rather than a collection of individual components. By automating complex processes, we significantly reduce the risk of human error, ensure consistent security policy enforcement across the entire campus, and enable the rapid deployment of new digital services to meet the evolving needs of our users.
Microsegmentation: A Zero Trust Security Play
In response to the modern cybersecurity landscape, we have implemented Microsegmentation. Think of this as a "Digital Safety Deposit Box" for every device. Unlike traditional networks where a breach could spread horizontally, microsegmentation isolates every user and device. Even if one endpoint is compromised, the threat is prevented from moving sideways through the network, ensuring that sensitive student records and administrative data remain protected.
Why it matters to you: These upgrades ensure that our campus is not only faster but significantly more resilient. By building a "Smart Campus" backbone, we are providing a secure, high-performance environment that protects our community against modern cyber threats while enabling the future of digital innovation.
