The university’s previous wireless infrastructure was designed for years before hte present days of high-density streaming and ubiquitous IoT. Recognizing the critical need for a robust, high-speed network to support modern pedagogy, ITSC has spearheaded a comprehensive modernization project. Over this summer, we successfully transitioned our campus to the Wi-Fi 7 standard, marking a new era of wireless performance.

Beyond Speed: Engineered for Density

While previous standards focused on raw throughput, Wi-Fi 7 is specifically designed for high-density environments like lecture halls, auditorium, and common areas. By utilizing the 6 GHz band and advanced modulation, this upgrade provides ultra-low latency and massive capacity. This ensures that even in a crowded classroom, every user experiences a seamless, "wired-like" connection.

The AI-Driven Self-Healing

Central to this upgrade is the integration of AIOps, Machine Learning (ML), and Microservices via the New Wi-Fi Management platform. This system transcends traditional network management by autonomously detecting and resolving connectivity issues—often before a user even realizes a problem exists. By leveraging Big Data Analytics, the network can "self-heal," providing detailed diagnostics and proactive solutions that were previously beyond human capability.

Future-Proofing the Digital Campus

This infrastructure expansion is built to support the next generation of academic technology. From bandwidth-intensive AR/VR learning and seamless 4K video conferencing to the management of thousands of concurrent IoT devices, our Wi-Fi 7 ecosystem provides the scalability required for a modern smart campus.

This upgrade has been completed with zero downtime.  By achieving more reliable, more stable and faster Wi-Fi connection, ITSC has prepared the campus ready for the future learning and research needs.
