Discontinuation of Studies
The studies of a student will normally be discontinued if,
| 1. | his/her term grade point average is below 1.00 for any two terms; or |
| 2. | he/she fails in more than half of the credits of all the courses he/she takes in a term for any two terms; or |
| 3. | he/she fails to have his/her academic probation lifted at the end of the term when he/she has taken cumulatively 12 or more credits since he/she has been put on probation, regardless of any intervening leave of absence, gap year or suspension of studies; or |
| 4. | he/she fails thrice a required course specified in his/her study programme (for a student who changes his/her study programme or Major programme, the failure under the original study programme or Major programme is also counted); or |
| 5. | he/she fails to fulfil the requirement(s) for progression as stipulated in his/her study programme, if any; or |
| 6. | he/she fails to fulfil all the requirements for graduation within the maximum period of study as stipulated in Regulations 13.1.2, 13.2.2 and 13.3. |
On the day of release of preliminary information on discontinuation of studies, students may view the preliminary information on discontinuation of studies by logging into the myLingnan Portal.
An individual notification will also be emailed to the students concerned.
If students have any reasons which they believe are relevant to their unsatisfactory academic performance, they may submit an online application for special consideration by the Board of Examiners or equivalent. Applications submitted outside the online platform (e.g. emails, physical mail and physical submission to Registry/Department/Programme Office) will NOT be accepted.

| Each programme will decide on its own application deadline. You should contact your Programme Office immediately to confirm your Programme’s deadline. Late applications will NOT be accepted. | |
| 2. | Discuss Your Case with the Academic Adviser and Programme Office |

| 3. | Submit Online Application |
| Submit your application via the online platform link provided in the email on or before your programme’s specified deadline. Read the online application notes carefully before submission. Once submitted, your application cannot be revised or updated. | |

Results of Application
The Board of Examiners or equivalent would make their recommendations on discontinuation/special consideration by taking into account the whole spectrum of factors (both academic and non-academic) affecting students’ academic performance. Their recommendations will be considered by the Undergraduate Examinations Board (UEB).
Students concerned will be notified via email of the decision of the UEB on the day of release of confirmed information on discontinuation of studies.
If the UEB resolves that your studies be discontinued in view of your unsatisfactory academic performance or progression, you will have the right to appeal against the decision of UEB through the Discontinuation Appeals Panel (DAP).
The DAP is empowered by the Senate to decide on the case, mainly on grounds of extenuating circumstances that affected the studies of the appellant and/or procedural problem(s) in the assessment process. The decision of the DAP will be final.

| Students concerned will receive an individual email notification. Appeals must be made within one week after the announcement of the resolution of UEB. | |
