How to prepare a good CV

"Curriculum vitae (CV)" and "resume" are two documents which differ in terms of content. CV provides details of your career while a resume gives a brief and concise summary of your skills and experience. Though sometimes these two terms are used interchangeably, a detailed description of your previous work experience, i.e. CV, is preferred.

CV is an important document in the job application and you should never underestimate its value. It gives prospective employers the first impression of you. Your CV needs to tell an employer why you are the best candidate for the job.

Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) Policy

Non-local students who have obtained a degree or higher qualification of a full-time and locally accredited programme in Hong Kong may apply to stay/return and work in Hong Kong under the "Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) Policy". Minimum Wage Ordinance (Labour Department of Hong Kong)

To protect the well-being of the workforce, starting from 1 May 2011, the Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) comes into force in Hong Kong. The current SMW rate is $34.5 per hour effective from 1 May 2017 and it will raise to $37.5 per hour, effective 1 May 2019. Details of the Minimum Wage Ordinance are available at the Labour Department Website.

Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance

The Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance provides for the safety and health protection to employees in workplaces, both industrial and non-industrial. It is basically an enabling ordinance setting out requirements in general terms. More details are available HERE.

Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme

MPF is an employment-based retirement protection scheme launched in December 2000. Under the MPF Ordinance, employers in all industries should enrol their regular employees (i.e. employees who are at least 18 but under 65 years of age and have been employed for a continuous period of 60 days or more) in an MPF scheme within the first 60 days of employment. The Ordinance is applicable to both local and non-local residents. Click HERE for details.

Part-time Jobs

Starting from November 1, 2023, full-time non-local postgraduate students would be temporarily exempted from the restrictions on taking up part-time jobs. The arrangement will be implemented on a trial basis for two years. For details, please refer to the Immigration Department's website.
