Live online lectures/meetings
All more active, authentic learning experience where instructor and students are in a live, interactive virtual classroom together. The instructor can interact with the whole class and students can respond back. Students can also break out into smaller groups to have problem-based discussions, while the instructor jumps in and out of individual groups to listen in and respond.
Zoom Meeting (recommended option)
- Usage: Deliver live lectures, host office hours, student presentations and student breakout groups using an external tool called Zoom - https://lingnan.zoom.us/ Meeting allows students to respond so you don’t miss out on the interaction.
- Features: Conduct a live virtual class with screen share, video of talking head, annotations and polling to keep students’ attention. Students can see, speak, hear and screen-share with you and their classmates. Allows breakout groups for discussions where the instructor can easily jump in and out of the groups. The whole session can be recorded.

Pre-recorded video lectures
Allows students to learn at their own time and pace without the instructor present. Instructors can create online class discussions to expand the topic and can check understanding with MOODLE quiz (more details on MOODLE Quiz and MOODLE Discussions below).
PowerPoint lecture recording (recommended option for quick mastery)
· Usage: Take your existing PowerPoint slides and turn them into a video lecture
· Features: PowerPoint allows you to add video, narration, animation, annotations, screen recording, script and export as video to MOODLE
· Requirements: Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 or Microsoft Office 365 and a microphone (built-in or external)

Lecture recording using ZOOM
· Usage: In addition to live lectures, Zoom can also be used for pre-recorded lectures. You can show your slides/screen, annotate the screen and show talking head to elaborate concepts highlighted.
· Features: Allows you to toggle between or combine all the functions in one screen when appropriate (PowerPoint share, screen share, annotations and video of talking head). Zoom automatically saves recording to cloud or computer and allows you to share the video link via MOODLE or email. Recording links are not permanent, please also download a back-up to your computer.

Lecture recording using PANOPTO (material developed by ITSC)
Panopto is an easy-to-use lecture capture system. This software is installed on some classroom computers on campus. Staff member can also requested to have it download and installed on your own computer.
You can use Panopto to:
- Record your lectures so that your students can review them later.
- Flip your classroom by creating mini-lectures for your students to watch before their classes.
- Record your students’ presentations.
- Record talks by guests.
Lecture recording with the TLC team support
· Usage: In addition to live lectures, we have set up a space in which teachers can drop by with a laptop and we will assist them to create a simple video recording of any lecturer material for sharing with students in place of the F2F class. This can be supplemented with discussion and quizz to promote sharing of ideas and to seek feedback.
Recording and sharing via the Courses MOODLE site is a simple way for students to both keep up to date with the Course material, seek input from teacher and other class members and can be easily facilitated via most smartphone cameras.
Paper-based assignments and Quizzes in MOODLE
MOODLE Assignment allows online submissions of paper-based assignments as an individual or as a group assignment. Feedback on the submission and grades can be managed, released and viewed within MOODLE.
- Usage: Instructors who would like to assign papers, projects or groupwork as homework or to replace a final exam or to seek feedback on material taught during the term can use MOODLE to accept online submissions, give feedback on the submissions and assign a grade.
- Features: Accepts MS-Word, PowerPoint, PDF and a range of other file types. With Veriguide submissions can be checked for plagiarism. More advanced assignment features include feedback, using rubrics for feedback and allowing Peer Review.

Online quizzes/exams via MOODLE Quizzes
Allows instructors to deliver quizzes or exams online but cannot guarantee cheating does not occur. To reduce cheating, we recommend a timed quiz/exam with a question bank, randomized questions, randomized options, and/or open response questions that are problem-based applications.
- Usage: Instructors can check students’ understanding of the material covered after completing pre-recorded or live lectures. Given the special circumstances and restrictions, this is a possible option to transfer your paper-based exam into a virtual and remote exam.
- Tips: Set a strict start and end time for the exam (with a buffer of ~10-15 minutes extra for technical issues), do not enable feedback to students, no correct answers should be released, create a question bank with randomized questions, select to randomize answer options (do not include all of the above or none of the above options), only allow single attempt, and remind students to not open any other tabs or windows to decrease technical issues.
Note: "MOODLE Quizzes" is for student self-assessment and not for high-stakes assessment. There is no security measures to avoid cheating. Please be cautious when using it for high-stakes assessment.
