Overview
BA in English Studies
The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Studies programme combines the study of English Language, literature, and culture in order to offer our students a holistic education in the field of English Studies. Our emphasis on language proficiency as well as academic excellence means that our students are able to pursue both fruitful professional careers and further studies in the discipline.
Exchange
Diverse Exchange Opportunities
All English Studies students are encouraged to participate in the University’s Student Exchange Programme, offered by the Office of Global Education, in a country where English is the medium of instruction. This opportunity is available during the third year or in Term One of the fourth year.

Final year Project
Final Year Project
To develop the fundamental research and problem-solving skills necessary for future careers and further academic pursuits, students undertake a two-term Final Year Project. This project can be either an academic research endeavour in Literature or Linguistics or a practical project designed to address a real or perceived community need.

Towards a promising career and academic excellence
The Department is known for its teaching and research excellence in areas ranging from sociolinguistics and argumentative writing to digital literacy and modern literature. Therefore, graduates have the chance to enter a range of careers where the combination of communication skills, language ability and cultural awareness is important. This includes sectors like financial services, the legal profession and education.
Many graduates have also gone on to postgraduate studies in English literature, linguistics or language studies and have a track record of research excellence.
