My story isn't a straight line; it's a loop that started and, meaningfully, continues at Lingnan University. It’s a story about how a supportive environment, a unique opportunity, and a bit of redemption can chart a career.
Chapter 1: The Foundation at Lingnan
My first year at Lingnan was defined by passion. I made myself at home with an international friend group. I thrived in small, interactive classes where professors like Dr Lui didn’t just lecture but get us to debate and engage with the class. Lingnan made sure their lectures are not passive learning but a training ground for critical thinking and applied knowledge.
I threw myself into the business case competitions, my team grinding late into the night. We placed as 2nd runner-up, a respectable start, but it left a fire burning in me. More than the trophy, Lingnan gave me a community and a scholarship that allowed me to focus entirely on this growth, free from financial strain.
Chapter 2: The Leap: A Fellowship to USC
Then came the unique opportunity that changed everything: a prestigious fellowship exclusive to Lingnan students that flew me across the Pacific to the University of Southern California. USC’s vibrant, sun-soaked campus was more than just "fun" but a transformative experience in my lifetime. The fellowship got me juggling between 3 roles, including a student research role and an internship at a local NGO, while still maintaining my responsibilities as a student. At work, I got exposed to and introduced to the concept of loan underwriting that has been leading my career trajectory ever since.
At USC, I engage in deep reflection sessions every Friday, finding my true thoughts and who I really am. This hands-on experience wasn't an abstract concept but the first real taste of my future career, and my true self, and of course, a glimpse of sunny, beautiful La La Land. And of course, also my first glimpse of the American dream: New York, Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia.
Chapter 3: The Homecoming & The Redemption
With that global experience, I returned to Hong Kong, but I felt like I had never really left Lingnan. I came back to the campus I know best, not just to reminisce, but to continue growing, again through education. The circle began to close in the most fulfilling ways. I found myself representing Lingnan, attending exclusive industry events, and even networking with luxury brand executives, leveraging the bilingual, sophisticated professional identity Lingnan helped me build.
And then, the sweetest moment of redemption: entering the school’s Business case competition again. This time, with the grit of a 2nd runner-up from my first year, and the sharpened skills from a global fellowship, my team won. The loop was complete.

My journey underscores that a university is more than a degree factory. Lingnan was my springboard, providing the intimate learning, the financial support (that crucial scholarship!), and the unique fellowship pipeline that places students on a world stage. It was also my anchor, a community to return to and elevate.
