Rules and Regulations

1. Attendance Requirement
- Students must complete a minimum of 30 service hours. Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in failure to meet the Service-Learning Graduation Requirement (SLGR).
- The Office of Service-Learning (OSL) reserves the final decision regarding the fulfillment of the SLGR.

2. Absence Policy
- Sick Leave: Absences are permitted only in cases of illness. Students must provide a valid medical certificate issued by a registered Hong Kong doctor within one week. Students are required to compensate for the missing sessions (not hours).
- Prior Leave: Students must apply for leave in advance by emailing the Service-Learning Coordinator at least one day before the activity. Prior approval is required. If no approval or email is received, the absence will be regarded as an unexcused leave. Approved leave requires compensation of the missing session(s).
- Unexcused Leave: Students with unexcused absences are required to compensate by attending two sessions (x2) for each missed session.

3. Course Commitment
- After one-third of the semester has passed, students are not allowed to drop the course or the Service-Learning component.
- Students are not allowed to join a Service-Learning component after the official start of the SL activities.

4. Punctuality
- Punctuality is essential. Arriving more than 15 minutes late or leaving more than 15 minutes early will be considered as absent.

5. Zoom Sessions
- For any online Service-Learning activities conducted via Zoom, students are required to turn on their camera for attendance-taking.
- Students with cameras turned off will not be counted as present.

6. Free Rider Policy
- A “free rider” refers to students who have two unexcused absences. Please report any potential free rider cases to the Service-Learning Coordinator as soon as possible.
