Sparking Joy and Creativity for Children and Families in Need

In the course CLE9025, students engaged in meaningful Service-Learning projects that addressed the needs of children living in subdivided units and those with special educational needs (SEN). These workshops aimed to foster creativity and enhance happiness among participants.

The STEAM workshops for children, conducted at both the Lady MacLehose Centre and the Extended Living Space in Tsuen Wan, centered around coding with micro:bit. By acquiring new skills and bringing their ideas to life through this technology, children gained a sense of achievement that significantly contributed to their happiness. This feeling of accomplishment not only boosted their confidence but also inspired them to explore their creativity and enhance their problem-solving skills.

Additionally, the workshop for SEN children and parents focused on the specific challenges faced by families with special educational needs. Students firstly participated in training sessions that taught them how to effectively read with SEN children, equipping them with strategies to engage and support these young readers. The reading groups provided a nurturing environment where parents and children could explore stories together, fostering a love for reading while strengthening their bonds. This initiative not only promoted literacy skills but also created a sense of community among families facing similar challenges.

Through these initiatives, CLE9025 empowered students to make a positive impact, deepening their understanding of life and happiness within the communities they served.
