Exploring the Lives of Children in Subdivided Units

In the course SOC3002, students set out to delve into the unique challenges faced by children living in subdivided flats. This initiative aimed to uncover the realities of their lives and foster a deeper understanding of the diverse circumstances that families navigate in our society.

Throughout this journey, students learned about the pressing housing issues in Hong Kong, where many families are forced to live in cramped conditions. By engaging directly with children in these environments, they sought to connect classroom theories about family dynamics and social structures with the lived experiences of their service targets.
The project included visits to subdivided units, where students had the opportunity to interact with the kids and hear their stories firsthand. Conducting interviews, they sought to discover what these children treasure most and the experiences that shape their daily lives. This personal connection allowed students to gain invaluable insights into the resilience and creativity these young individuals exhibit despite their challenging circumstances.
