Language Learning and Cultural Exchange Opportunities
1) Student-initiated Multi-Cultural and Multi-Lingual Enhancement Programmes Campus Fund (MMCF)
The Student-initiated Multi-Cultural and Multi-Lingual Enhancement Programmes Campus Fund (MMCF) is a funding scheme which adopts a bottom-up approach with an aim to facilitate students in organising programmes for language learning and cultural exchange. Students can apply for MMCF for subsidising any activities with the objective(s) of language learning and/or cultural exchange such as, but not limited to, global cinema followed by discussion, introduction to cuisines of different countries, world classics reading club, attending cultural and art appreciation programmes and conducting field trips to historic sites in Hong Kong for cultural appreciation etc.

English Language Support Service (ELSS)
Our Visiting English Tutors (VETs) provide tutoring, advice and guidance on using English for academic writing, formal presentations, informal settings and IELTS. We also organise a wide range of social activities for practising English in a relaxed and informal environment and for meeting people from other cultures! Our services span academic and social, and include:
- IELTS and Password test tutorials for preparing for English language tests.
- Writing and speaking tutorials for assignments such as essays and presentations, or professional work such as CVs and job interviews.
- A Drop-in Centre in LBY202 for any last-minute language-related questions and queries.
- English corner for an informal chat with us and a group of students.
- Social gatherings such as games nights, speed-friending and picnics!
Additional Languages
CEAL offers a variety of French, Japanese, Korean and Spanish courses tailored to learners from beginner to intermediate levels and beyond. Instruction begins primarily in English, gradually transitioning to target-language immersion as students’ proficiency advancers. The curriculum integrates cultural exploration with core linguistic skills, covering a range of themes such as food, travel, and social etiquette to deepen both linguistic proficiency and intercultural understanding.
Minor in Korean Language & Culture
This Minor programme, from CEAL, aims to introduce students to the Korean language and culture, by equipping them with effective communication skills in speaking, writing, reading, and listening as well as by increasing their exposure to the cultural characteristics of Korea. They will gain new perspectives to gauge their understanding of a country with increasing cultural and economic influence on the world.
