Fire Safety

To enhance fire safety awareness among the University community, OCDM regularly organizes fire drills for campus users. Following each drill, officers from the Fire Services Department gave brief talks on fire safety. Participants also had the opportunity to practise using fire extinguishers under the guidance of fire service officers.

Campus buildings are equipped with a range of fire service installations, including fire bells, visual alarms, hose reels, sprinklers and emergency power systems, to reduce fire risk and enhance your safety. OCDM carries out regular inspections of these installations to properly maintain them in good working condition.

Moreover, improper cooking practices and misuse of microwave ovens have occasionally triggered unnecessary fire alarm activations in the hostels. To safeguard the safety and well-being of all residents, hostel occupants are reminded to observe the following guidelines:

• Monitor your cooking process attentively
• Never leave food unattended in the microwave
• Follow proper cooking times as per instruction of the microwave to prevent smoke
• Switch on exhaust fan and cooker hood wherever applicable
• Avoid using appliances that may produce smoke or steam
• Avoid disturbance to the smoke detectors, including fan blowing towards the smoke detector
