Sustainable Commuting

Promoting Low-carbon Commuting

Lingnan University is committed to promoting low-carbon travel between the main campus and its surroundings. Our target is to at least maintain 90% of our population travels by sustainable means such as using Public Transport Services and other means like walking and cycling. We have also installed new EV charging facilities for electric vehicle drivers.

 

The University adopts various measures to promote sustainable commuting to staff and students, including:

Promoting Public Transportation

  • Providing Shuttle Bus Service for special occasions such as Congregation, Information Day and Welcoming Events for addressing the needs of increased transportation demands of our university community
  • Encouraging our university community to utilize public transport
    MTR: Get off at Siu Hong Station and take Exit F, walk about 10 minutes
    Bus: 53, 67M, 67X, 261, K51, K51A and K58

  • Cooperating with bus companies to promote bus fares discounts for students and staff, located in G/F, Lau Lee Yuen Haan Amenities Building

Expanding Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure

To improve open area air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the University encouraged wider use of electric vehicles by:

 

  • Continuously installing EV charging stations in the carpark

 

Electric Vehicle Infrasture

 

  • Implementing load sharing function to increase numbers of EV charging station

  • Adopting 100% electric vehicles as official fleet that serve various functions like staff transportation for meetings and conferences for reducing emissions across university operations

     

Promoting Cycling, Pedestrian Transportation and Use of Stairs

  • Providing free bicycle racks in 7 convenient locations around the campus and hostel

  • Encouraging pedestrian walking and use of stairs, community can travel along the well-maintained covered footpaths with greenery to all buildings.
    In addition, Wayfinding Map software is designed to help pedestrians navigate the campus effectively.

  • To enhance pedestrian safety and walking environment, slow humps are implemented in the campus.

     

Providing Basic Services nearby

  • Providing adequate basic services near the University for our university community include Restaurants, Automated Teller Machine (ATM), Medical and Dental Clinic, Pharmacy, Supermarket, Convenience Stores, Post Box, Education Centre, Laundry, Hairdresser, Retail shops, etc.
