Activities

The Office of Student Affairs organises a variety of activities throughout the year to help host families and students build meaningful connections, create shared memories, and foster a strong sense of belonging.

First Term 2026-27

Kick-off Reception

  • Date: 16 September 2026 (Wednesday)
  • Time: 6:45-7:30pm
  • Venue: Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery

Activity (I) - Urban Jungle Adventure: The Art of Succulent Bonsai

  • Date: 7 October 2026 (Wednesday)
  • Time: 6:30-8:30pm
  • Venue: LU Campus (exact location to be confirmed)

Activity (II) - Sunset Harbor Voyage: Hong Kong Dukling Tour

  • Date: 7 November 2026 (Saturday)
  • Time: 5:30-6:30pm
  • Venue: Tsim Sha Tsui

Gathering arranged by Host Family

  • Following the Kick-off Reception, host families are encouraged to arrange activities for their hostee(s).  To support these engagements, the Office of Student Affairs will provide an activity subsidy for the host families as a token of appreciation.

 

Second Term 2026-27

Activities for the Second Term will be announced in January 2027.  Host families and students, please stay tuned for updates from the Office of Student Affairs.
 
 

Lingnan Host Family Scheme 2025-26 Activity Snapshot

Throughout the 2025-26 academic year, the Office of Student Affairs organised a series of engaging activities for host families and students. These events were thoughtfully designed to foster meaningful connections and create lasting memories.  Non-local students and their host families took part in numerous activities, including bus tours, craft workshops and a seaside barbecue.  These shared experiences allowed them to explore local traditions, build lasting friendships, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the University community.

 

Kick-off Reception

In September 2025, host families and students met for the first time at the Kick-off reception held on campus.  They were deeply moved by the heartfelt stories shared by two former participants.  The warm and relaxed evening encouraged open conversation and the start of new relationships.

Mid-Autumn Festival Party

In September 2025, a cosy Mid-Autumn Festival party brought host families and students together for a lovely evening of crafting rabbit lanterns, sharing traditional festive treats, and celebrating the festival like one big happy family.

 

 City Lights Adventure: Hong Kong Bus Tour 

During this special bus tour, participants hopped on an open-top bus to explore Hong Kong's most famous spots together, taking in the beautiful night views and enjoying a truly relaxing evening.

Gather in Warmth: Poon Choi Night

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, host families and students gathered for a heartwarming evening featuring a delicious Poon Choi feast.  They savoured the rich flavours, learned about the cultural traditions behind the dish, and created happy memories around the table.

 

 

Sink into the Sunset – Seaside Barbeque Party

As a warm and lovely finale to the Scheme, host families and students gathered by the seaside, sharing laughs and a delicious Hong Kong-style barbecue around the fire.  Though the scheme has now concluded, the friendships and precious memories will undoubtedly live on.
