Healthcare

1) Student Medical and Dental Scheme

Full-time students can enjoy health services such as the Student Medical Benefits Scheme and Student Dental Scheme provided by the University.  Additionally, the Office of Student Affairs regularly organise health campaigns such as education talks and vaccination programmes to promote healthcare awareness and disease prevention.

The Student Medical Benefits Scheme includes general practitioner consultations and prescriptions.  It covers simple laboratory tests and X-rays when presented with a GP’s referral letter. Full-time students can pay a nominal fee (HKD20 per consultation) upon presenting their Lingnan University Student ID card.  The Dental Scheme covers basic dental treatments at nominal fees for full-time students.  Other forms of dental treatments and services will also be provided at a preferential rate.

The nearest clinic is at the Fu Tai Shopping Centre (10-minute walk from the campus)

2) Insurance

The Student Medical Benefits Scheme does NOT cover hospital bills, medical or accident insurance.  For better protection, non-local students are strongly advised to purchase comprehensive insurance (covering travel, accidents, medical expenses, hospitalisation, etc) in their hometowns or home countries before arriving in Hong Kong.

3) Government Medical Services

Non-local students holding a valid Hong Kong Identity Card are eligible for government medical services or hospital treatment (inpatient and outpatient) at local rates in Hong Kong.  The nearest public hospital is Tuen Mun Hospital.

4) Chronic Illnesses

Non-local students requiring medication should bring an ample supply, as their prescribed medicine may not be readily available in Hong Kong.  We recommend students obtain the name of their medication, including its chemical or generic name, from their doctor and bring a copy of the prescription with them.

Counselling Service and Support Service for Students with Special Needs

1) Counselling Services

Counselling services are offered to all Lingnan students, including undergraduate, postgraduate and exchange students.  The service is confidential and provided free of charge.  Our counsellors are professionally trained to help students with adjustment, emotional and personal issues, improve mental health, build up confidence and self-understanding, etc.

2) Support Service for Students with Special Educational Needs

The Office of Student Affairs provides support to students with special educational needs, including those with learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, physical/mobility and medical disabilities, vision and hearing impairments, and more.  

Students with special educational needs should register with the Office of Student Affairs at the beginning of the academic year.  This will give the University sufficient time to make the necessary arrangements, such as providing equipment to facilitate the student’s attendance in lessons and examinations. All information regarding a student’s SEN status will be kept strictly confidential and will only be disclosed with the student’s explicit consent.

Career Advising Services

The Office of Student Affairs provides career advising services to assist students in preparing for their employment after graduation.  These services include mentoring programmes, internship opportunities, job preparation workshops, and job information platforms.

Campus Life

1) Student Societies/ University Teams

To enrich the campus life experience at Lingnan, students are encouraged to join student societies or university teams.  This offers a great opportunity for students to engage with other peers, build lasting relationships, and develop their interests and skills outside of the classroom.

To help students develop their talents and unlock their potential, the University encourages them to join the University sports teams or cultural teams.  The University has 39 sports teams across 19 sports.  The sports teams participate in various inter-collegiate competitions, particularly those organised by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China Ltd (USFHK).  In addition, the University has four University cultural teams, including the Dragon Boat Team, Lion Dance and Martial Arts Team and Debate Teams (Chinese and Putonghua).  These teams participate in several high-profile events and competitions annually.

2) Student Development Awards

A wide range of student development awards are offered to students. Students are encouraged to participate in these meaningful student development programmes where the Office of Student Affairs would provide subsidies and assistance.  The awards are:

• Consul General for a Day
• International Leadership Training Camp

3) Non-local Student Groups

Non-local Student Circle

The Non-local Student Circle is a student group comprising non-local undergraduate students from different countries.  The group’s non-local student mentors provide care and support and organise networking activities for new and current non-local students.  They also collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs to promote cross-cultural appreciation between local and non-local students through organising various activities.
