Hong Kong, China has a diverse range of public transportation options including buses, minibuses, railways, taxis, tramways and ferries.
Bus
Most buses in Hong Kong are air-conditioned double-deckers, operated by various companies with routes covering almost all places in Hong Kong, including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.

Minibuses
Hong Kong has two types of minibuses: Green and Red minibuses. These air-conditioned small buses have 16 or 19 seats. Green minibuses operate on fixed routes and fares, while red minibuses do not follow a fixed route or fare structure.
Taxi
Hong Kong has three types of taxis: Red for Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, Green for the New Territories and Blue for Lantau Island.
Taxi Fleet
Fleet taxis are government-regulated premium taxi services in Hong Kong, operated by licensed fleet companies. They offer newer vehicles (including wheelchair-accessible, premium, and electric models), online booking, e-payment, in-car safety devices, and customer support, all driven by formally trained drivers. They can be pre-booked or hailed on the street.
There are five taxi fleets providing services, and their names are (in alphabetical order): Amigo, Big Bee Taxi, Big Boss Taxi, Joie and SynCab.

Light Rail
Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and Light Rail
MTR is one of the most convenient and efficient public transport systems in Hong Kong. The MTR network has 11 railway lines covering all major districts in the city. Light Rail is a rail system that primarily serves Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai in the New Territories. To travel to Lingnan University, the nearest MTR and Light Rail Station is Siu Hong Station, which is just a 10-minute walk from the campus.

Ferry
There are also different ferries for travelling to the outlying islands of Hong Kong. One of the most popular routes is the Star Ferry, which connects Central and Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island and Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon Peninsula.

Tramways - “Ding Ding”
Hong Kong Tramways, known as “Ding Ding”, is an iconic mode of transport that runs along Hong Kong Island from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan, with a branch line serving Happy Valley.
MTR Student Travel Scheme
The MTR offers concessionary fares to Personalised Octopus Card Holders with student status under the MTR Student Travel Scheme.
This scheme is available to full-time students aged between 12 and 25. Students can apply through the MTR’s official website or mobile app.
Octopus Card
The Octopus card is an electronic stored-value card widely accepted across Hong Kong. It offers seamless travel convenience, as most public transport systems accept it. Moreover, Octopus Card payments are widely used at convenience stores, restaurants, supermarkets, self-service machines and leisure facilities. On campus, students can use their Octopus Card for payments at the canteen, library and hostel laundry services. Cards can be purchased at MTR customer service centres, convenience stores at the airport or train station in the city.
