Air-conditioning is widely used in Hong Kong—in classrooms, various modes of transportation, shops, shopping malls, and more—to ensure proper airflow and a comfortable temperature. Students are advised to bring a jacket to avoid catching a cold due to fluctuations. To know more information about weather in Hong Kong, please visit the Hong Kong Observatory.
For students living in the student hostel, please prepare your own bedding (i.e. bedsheet, pillow, pillowcase and quilt). You may bring your own or purchase after you arrive in Hong Kong. Please DO NOT mail your luggage to the student hostel before check-in. Regarding the size of the bed and furniture provided in the student hostel, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions | Office of Student Affairs (Student Hostel).
Adaptors
The voltage in Hong Kong is 220V at 50Hz. If your electrical device is not compatible with 220V / 50Hz, you may need a voltage converter in addition to a plug adapter. Universal plug adaptors are widely available for purchase upon arrival at any convenience stores, supermarkets or electrics shops in Hong Kong. The plugs used in Hong Kong are UK-style, with three rectangular prongs.

As you finalise what to pack, please be aware that Hong Kong enforces strict regulations on the import and export of certain goods. To ensure a smooth and trouble-free arrival, it is essential to know that some items are entirely prohibited, while others require prior authorisation from the relevant government departments. Failure to comply with these regulations can lead to serious legal consequences, including penalties.
Key Points to Remember:
Prohibited and Controlled Articles: Under the Import and Export Ordinance (Chapter 60) and other Hong Kong laws, specific articles cannot be brought into Hong Kong without a valid licence, permit, or certificate. These must be obtained before you travel.
Your Responsibility: It is your personal responsibility to ensure you are not carrying any such items. Please review your luggage carefully before you depart.
