Hanfu and Traditional Chinese Culture Experience Day
Hanfu and Traditional Chinese Culture Experience Day
In an effort to promote traditional Chinese culture and strengthen the sense of belonging in both our country and national identity, the Tuen Mun District Office, Tuen Mun District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee (TMDYDCEC), Lingnan University (LU), and the "Strive for Success" Alumni Association organised a Hanfu and Traditional Chinese Culture Experience Day on 14 September 2024. This event serves as a platform to engage young people through cultural celebration and artistic expression.
As one of the key supporting initiatives for the “LingArt Programme on the Promotion & Inheritance of Chinese Culture”, 22 student ambassadors of the LingArt Programme were invited to assist with the event. Officiating guests included the Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost of LU, Professor Raymond CHAN Hon-fu, Tuen Mun District Officer, Mr. Michael KWAN, JP, Division Chief of New Territories Sub-Office of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. LI Wei-xi, Acting Deputy District Commander (Tuen Mun) of the Hong Kong Police Force, Mr. WONG Shing-wah, Chief School Development Officer (Tuen Mun) of the Education Bureau, Ms. HON Hin-yan, and Vice-Chairman of the TMDYDCEC, Mr. FUNG Pui-yin. This event allows youngsters of Tuen Mun to learn more about the history and charm of Hanfu through trying them on. Guests and participants dressed in Hanfu and participated in handcraft workshops, including mini flower plaque crafting and paper cutting, to appreciate the exquisite aesthetics of traditional arts, carrying on the legacies of traditional culture and strengthening their sense of belonging in both their country and national identity.
A two-year programme called “LingArt”, Programme on the Promotion and Inheritance of Chinese Culture, was launched by LU during the 2023-24 academic year, aiming to align with the Belt and Road Initiative and respond to the Chief Executive’s call for “fostering the cultural development of Hong Kong to expedite its progression into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange”, as to promote Chinese culture and showcase its richness and uniqueness.
