Dr. WU Zeying Zena

Research Assistant Professor

Professor Zeying Wu Zena is an RGC-funded postdoctoral fellow and a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Government and International Affairs. Before she joined Lingnan in October 2022, she received her PhD from Boston University. She has published an edited volume, journal articles, book chapters, and commentaries on related subjects.


Her research interests cover the political economy of East Asian countries (particularly China and Japan), international trade and technology cooperation, and, broadly, the causal impacts of ideational factors on political and economic outcomes. 

 

Dr. YANG Kai

Research Assistant Professor

Professor Kai Yang joined the Department of Government and International Affairs as a Research Assistant Professor in September 2022. He obtained his PhD in political science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in August 2022. Previously, he was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Vienna (2020-21) and the University of California, Berkeley (2021-22), respectively sponsored by the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Ernst Mach Grant (EPU) and the China-U.S. Scholars Program (CUSP). He employs qualitative and quantitative approaches to studying public opinion, political participation, dispute resolution, and stability maintenance.


His research articles have appeared in peer-reviewed political science and area study journals such as Comparative Politics, The China Quarterly, The China Journal, and Journal of Contemporary China.

 

Professor YANG Xiangfeng

Associate Professor

Dr. Yang Xiangfeng joined the Department of Government and International Affairs in January 2023. He received his PhD in political science and international relations from the University of Southern California (USC) and was on the University of North Georgia and Yonsei University faculty.


His research interests include Sino-US relations, international security, and Asian politics.

Professor CHEN Xi, Celia

Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and Social Policy

Dr. Xi Chen obtained her PhD degree in Sociology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She joined Lingnan University in September 2022. Before that, she worked as a Research Assistant Professor (2021-2022) and Postdoctoral Fellow (2017-2020) at the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, CUHK. She received the Harvard-Yenching Institute Fellowship and was a visiting fellow at Harvard University from 2013-2014. Her research interests include social determinants of health, mental health, crime and deviance, substance abuse, and health inequality. She received the Asian Criminological Society Best Article Award in 2021 (co-authored with Dr. Yuet-wah Cheung).

 

Her research interests include social determinants of health, health inequality, crime and deviance, substance abuse, and quantitative methods.
