Anti-deception Talk by Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO)

On 11 November 2024, Lingnan University invited Mr. Alvin Wong, Chief Inspector of Police and Regional Crime Prevention Officer of the New Territories North Regional Crime Prevention Office of the Hong Kong Police Force, to deliver a special talk on anti-deception.

The purpose of this talk was to raise students' awareness of deception and help them identify and respond to various fraudulent schemes.

Mr. Wong’s talk was comprehensive and detailed, introducing various common deception methods such as online scams, phone scams, fake investments, and identity theft leading to credit card fraud. He not only explained the specific operations of these fraudulent methods but also analysed the reasons why victims fall for these scams and provided preventive measures based on real cases.

The talk not only provided students with a more comprehensive understanding of contemporary fraud crimes but also enhanced their awareness and ability to prevent deception. It is hoped that through such activities, students can better protect themselves in daily life and stay away from fraud traps.
