LINGNAN UNIVERSITY Positive TLQPR Report
Lingnan University has received a positive report from the Teaching and Learning Quality Process Reviews (TLQPR) Panel commending many of its quality assurance processes in teaching and learning at various levels and across a spectrum of academic programmes and activities. The TLQPR Panel has endorsed the efforts of the University in promoting Education Quality Work and agreed that "there are many good things at Lingnan that work well ― largely as a result of its small size and the culture of trust that exists on campus".
The TLQPR Panel comprising 14 experts headed by Prof. Rosie Tse-tse Young, visited the University on January 15 and 16, 2003. The visit was preceded by the submission of a suite of self-evaluation documents on quality assurance processes for the taught programmes, research postgraduate and continuing education programmes of the University. Staff and students from various academic units, committees, teaching and learning support centres and the Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE) participated in the focused discussions of Education Quality Work (EQW) as practised in their respective areas with the TLQPR Panel during the one-and-a-half-day site visit to the University.
Prof Edward K Y Chen, President of Lingnan University, responded to the positive comments by the Panel, saying that "Lingnan University takes pride in its student-centred approach to teaching and learning and our commitment to the goal of providing liberal arts education of the highest quality, and we welcome the TLQPR's objective of maintaining 'the focus on teaching and learning as the primary mission of Hong Kong tertiary institutions'."
In this Second Round TLQPR Report on Lingnan University, the University is commended for the progress that has been made in response to recommendations contained in the first round TLQPR Report. In particular a number of mechanisms put in place have led to a greater and more fitting formalisation of quality assurance and improvement processes relating to teaching and learning. Lingnan is also commended for the positive attitudes toward teaching and learning that are displayed by both staff and students, and a general feeling of collegiality that pervades the institution.
Prof Chen reiterated that "Lingnan University values the positive and constructive comments made by the TLQPR Panel. The University will continue to strive for greater excellence by building on our current strengths and quality processes."
