Lingnan University to confer Honorary Fellowship upon four distinguished individuals

Lingnan University will confer Honorary Fellowship upon four distinguished individuals, namely Mr Adolf Hsu Hsung, SBS, ISO, JP; Mr Kwan Chi-sun; Mr Michael Lee Tze-hau and Mr Patrick Wong Chi-kwong, in recognition of their valuable contributions to education and the well-being of the community.

After 40 years in the civil service, Mr Hsu retired as Director of Regional Services in 1998. In the six years that followed, Mr Hsu joined New World First Bus Services Ltd and New World First Ferry Services Ltd as Managing Director, during which he played a key role in the successful takeover of the then China Motor Bus and Yaumatei Ferry Services. He also has an outstanding track record in community services with various positions in the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, The Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Council of Lingnan University and several district councils of the scout associations of Hong Kong.

A graduate of the Affiliated High School of Lingnan University in Guangzhou, Mr Kwan has been actively involved in alumni affairs at Lingnan, education and the promotion of diving and swimming in Hong Kong. In addition to having a successful career in real estate as the person behind the building of more than a few iconic landmarks, Mr Kwan was also a Cantonese film producer in the 1950s and 1960s. Blockbusters he produced included Colourful Youth (1966) and The Sweetest Moment (1967), starring Cantonese heartthrobs Connie Chan Po-chu and Josephine Siao Fong-fong.

With his dedication to the enhancement of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility in Hong Kong, Mr Lee is an exemplar of the new generation of business executives. He has been a member of the council and executive committee of the Hong Kong Management Association, a director of the Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Ltd. Notwithstanding his business commitments, Mr Lee always has the underprivileged in mind. He is now President of the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, Deputy Chairman of Helping Hand, a member of the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service and a steward of The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Also a graduate of the Chinese Department at Lingnan College, Mr Wong is now a partner of Mayer Brown JSM and enjoys a successful career in the legal profession. Over the years Mr Wong has been putting his belief in Lingnan’s motto “Education for service” into practice through his enthusiastic involvement in community services. He has served for six years as a member of the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform, and is now Chairman of the Company Law Committee of the Law Society. Mr Wong is a director and the honorary secretary of The Hong Kong Central Hospital Limited. He has been a director of Lingnan Education Organization Limited since 1991, and has also served on the Board of Governors of the former Lingnan College. He is now a member of the Council of Lingnan University.

The Honorary Fellowship Presentation Ceremony will be held at Chan Tak Tai Auditorium, Lingnan University campus on Monday, 21 November 2011.
