Today Lingnan University conferred honorary fellowship upon Mr Dominic Ng, Chairman and CEO of East West Bank.
At the ceremony-cum-luncheon on Lingnan campus, Mr Ng also delivered a speech on “US-China Relations: At the Crossroads of Cooperation and Competition”. He pointed out that the United States, an established superpower, and China, an emerging global power, are standing at the crossroads of cooperation and competition. Amid the global market uncertainty, security risks and domestic pressures, both countries are well aware of the high stakes and hard choices involved in finding a common ground.
“Pragmatic partnership between Washington and Beijing requires bilateral trust-building based on common ground and mutual benefits. Constructive cooperation is essential in managing complex bilateral and global challenges in the months and years ahead,” said Mr Ng. “Hong Kong is well-positioned to play a productive role in strengthening communication and trust between the US and China for greater economic good.”
A native of Hong Kong currently residing in California, Mr Ng has been named by Forbes as one of the 25 most notable Chinese Americans and one of the 100 most influential people in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Times. Mr Ng transformed California-based East West Bank from a small savings and loan association into one of the 30 largest banks in the US. Mr Ng began his career as a Certified Public Accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and an honorary doctor of law degree from Occidental College. He serves as the Chairman of the Committee of 100 and on the boards of directors of Mattel, Inc. and the Pacific Council on International Policy. He is an advisory committee member of the Resnick Institute at the California Institute of Technology and served on the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Los Angeles Branch from 2005 to 2010.
