The Art of HO Wing-cheong and Collaborative Painting with Lingnan Students
Lingnan University (the University) has a rich heritage dating back to its founding in Guangzhou in 1888. In the 1930s, one of the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting, Master GLingnan University (the University) has a rich heritage dating back to its founding in Guangzhou in 1888. In the 1930s, one of the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting, Master GAO Qifeng (1889–1933), served as a professor and honorary professor at Lingnan University. In 1967, the University reopened in Hong Kong and now stands as a beacon of excellence in liberal arts education, integrating both Chinese and Western traditions.
To further promote Chinese arts and culture, the University launched "LingArt" Programme on the Promotion and Inheritance of Chinese Culture starting from the 2023/24 academic year. Through a variety of Chinese cultural and artistic activities, the programme aims to develop an understanding of China’s rich and diverse heritage among both local and non-local students. The Lingnan School of Painting Course has been held at the University for many years, allowing students to personally experience Chinese aesthetics, enhance their artistic appreciation and creativity, and deepen their understanding and inheritance of the essence of Chinese culture.
As a site of East-West cultural convergence, Hong Kong, China provides a fertile ground and international stage for Lingnan art. Mr. HO Wing-cheong, Senior Instructor of the Lingnan School of Painting at the University, is a disciple of Professor CHAO Shao-an, who studied under Master GAO Qifeng, preserving the legacy of Lingnan art in Guangdong and Hong Kong.
The Lingnan School of Painting preserves traditional aesthetics while embracing a global perspective and modern spirit. This exhibition features selected works from Mr. HO's collection, placed alongside a large collaborative Lingnan painting Spring Blossoms, co-created by Mr. HO and Lingnan students, allowing Chinese aesthetics to be inherited in Hong Kong through apprenticeship to a master. This work is displayed in Hong Kong for the first time and has never been shown to the public before. Spring Blossoms takes the vitality of all things as its theme, depicting the vitality of nature through vivid brushstrokes and colours, showcasing the imagery of the earth's revival and conveying the inexhaustible energy and creative potential of youth.

LingArt Programme on the Promotion & Inheritance of Chinese Culture
"LingArt" Programme aims to promote Chinese culture and showcase its richness and uniqueness. It consists of three parts, providing students with a comprehensive learning journey to understand, appreciate, and inherit Chinese and local culture.
The first part involves experiential learning or cultural exchange activities to stimulate students’ sensitivity and interest in Chinese culture. Subsequently, through various short-term courses, students can acquire basic knowledge and even enhance their artistic or cultural literacy. The final part allows students to gain in-depth knowledge of Chinese culture through long-term courses, advanced activities, internships, and various study tours to the chinese mainland, providing them with opportunities for practical work experience and industry connections.
