Strategic spin-off of Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE) programmes

Lingnan University announced today (8 December) the spin-off of associate degree programmes and other non-degree programmes currently offered by Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE).  Lingnan University spokesperson said that the spin-off forms part of the University’s realignment strategy, with an aim of enabling a sharper focus on undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and knowledge transfer. 

The new operator, Hong Kong New Emerging Technology Education Charity Foundation, plans to apply for registration under the recently amended Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap. 320).  Lingnan University will provide reasonable assistance in the transition while ensuring the quality of teaching and learning experience. Lingnan University and the new operator will keep in close contact with Education Bureau and Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).

Currently, LIFE offers four full-time programmes: Associate of Arts (History), Associate of Business Studies (Business Management), Associate of Social Sciences (Psychology), and Higher Diploma in Sports Coaching and Leadership. All students admitted to LIFE in the 2026/27 academic year or earlier, covering full-time and other programmes, will continue their studies with full support until graduation, and, upon meeting university graduation requirements, will be awarded degree and other certificates issued by Lingnan University.

Lingnan University spokesperson emphasised that throughout the process, the University accords top priority to ensuring effective transition for all parties concerned and maintaining high-quality teaching and learning. Approximately 500 LIFE students will continue their studies unaffected. The LIFE Management Board, comprising representatives from Lingnan University, LIFE staff and students, convened a meeting today to discuss the latest developments. Lingnan University management will also meet separately with the staff and students concerned on further details of the arrangements. Full-time LIFE staff members will also engage in discussion on transitional arrangements with the new operator.
