Lingnan Global Forum 2026: Explores AI and the Future of Humanity
The 2026 Lingnan Global Forum was held on 21 January 2026 at the Marriott Marquis, Washington, D.C., with Lingnan University hosting an afternoon session supported by the Lingnan Foundation, USA. The Forum, themed “AI and the Future of Humanity,” examined how artificial intelligence is transforming technologies and industries while also reshaping education, governance, human development, and contemporary understandings of humanity. Prof Raymond Chan, Vice‑President (Academics) cum Provost of Lingnan University, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the growing importance of AI discourse in shaping society and the future of higher education.

The Forum featured three keynote speeches and a panel discussion. The keynote speakers were Prof Albert Ko, Director of the United Nations University Hub at Lingnan University; Prof Katherine Kim, Adjunct Professor of Public Health Sciences at the University of California, Davis; and Prof Carlos Montemayor, Professor in the Department of Philosophy at San Francisco State University. Together, they examined the societal, ethical, technological, and human dimensions of artificial intelligence.

Their insights informed the panel discussion, “Humanity, Responsibility, and Resilience: A Global Dialogue on AI Futures,” which also featured Prof Tony Chan, Former President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and Prof Tyrone Hayes, Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley.
The Lingnan Global Forum, jointly launched in 2020 by Lingnan College of Sun Yat‑sen University and the Lingnan Foundation, USA, and joined by Lingnan University, Hong Kong as a co‑organiser in 2025, reflects a shared commitment to advancing global dialogue through the “Tri‑Lingnan” partnership. With strong roots in the Greater Bay Area and a global outlook, the Forum continues to amplify the Lingnan voice on the world stage, fostering cross‑cultural and interdisciplinary exchange while contributing perspectives on AI, sustainability, and the future of higher education.
