The Departments of Psychology at Lingnan University and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) extended their long-standing academic partnership with the 3rd Joint Symposium in Seoul on 7 May 2026, chaired by Prof Kim Minue, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at SKKU. Scholars from both universities were invited to discuss their research, and dozens of MPhil and PhD students from the SKKU’s Department of Psychology attended.
Prof Jay Xu Jie, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at Lingnan University, described seven experimental studies examining the moral influence of AI on human beings. These find that people are more inclined to adopt advice from real human beings than from AI, which has limited persuasive power in social decisions.
Prof Jocelyn Lin Li, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychology at Lingnan University, outlined three studies on motivational types of happiness, exploring how hedonic, eudaimonic, and extrinsic motivations affect children’s well-being, adolescents’ academic distress, and parents’ child-rearing behaviours.
Towards the end of the session, Prof Park Hyung In from SKKU presented three studies on the characteristics of off-job recovery activities. Her address outlined the typical features of off-job recovery in different groups, and analysed how these can stimulate employees’ well-being and organisational citizenship behaviours.
The Department of Psychology at Lingnan University looks forward to future academic exchanges with SKKU, and to using their complementary strengths for mutual development in the field of psychological research.
Since entering into a five-year academic exchange agreement in 2022, the Departments of Psychology at Lingnan University and SKKU have strengthened their partnership, and the recent 3rd Sungkyunkwan-Lingnan Joint Symposium at SKKU and the Joint Symposium with SKKU and Renmin University of China at Lingnan University in January 2026 underscore the robust and enduring collaborative ties between the two departments.
