2024 President's Awardee Hui Qiuyuan's secret tips for achieving academic excellence
You can do whatever you want, you can dream whatever you want to be.
The 2024 President's Award, the highest honour for academic excellence, has been awarded to Hui Qiuyuan from the first graduating class of Business Psychology. Hui’s impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.92 earned her the prestigious award.
She expressed her deep gratitude for this accolade, and thanked her professors and classmates for their support. Hui believes that the rich resources and opportunities provided by Lingnan University have greatly broadened her international perspective and contributed to her holistic development.
Hui is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counselling at Johns Hopkins University in the United States, embarking on a new chapter in her life. As she reflects on her time at Lingnan, she feels a wave of nostalgia and encourages fellow Lingnanians to follow their dreams.

What do you like most about Lingnan University?
There are so many things to appreciate, such as small classes, opportunities for exchanges, and various scholarships. Few universities are like Lingnan in offering so many opportunities to interact with professors and classmates, which make you feel very close to one other.
In terms of exchange opportunities, I was able to go to Peking University, which is one of my dream schools. I did a lot, and led a different life from Hong Kong. It has truly given me many happy memories.
The scholarships I have won are an important validation for me, and motivated me to pursue further academic studies and personal development. In so many ways, Lingnan University has encouraged me to achieve further progress.
What are your learning strategies?
Three components. First, I have a daily routine where I study and do my assignments and pre-reading. There is also positive feedback involved, which creates a positive loop that reinforces my determination and motivates me to pursue my goals.
Additionally, I focus on coping with stress and try to develop a flexible psychological mechanism. For example, in my first semester I achieved a 3.93 GPA. That really encouraged me to set higher goals for myself academically. I have also gained more self-confidence and self-accuracy in my studies.
What message would you like to convey to inspire Lingnanians?
If you want to be outstanding, the first step is to accept yourself and love yourself. This will provide the power for strength to motivate you. You can do whatever you want, you can dream whatever you want to be. Just as I strive for myself, there is nothing that cannot be conquered.
