Lingnan University organises the Distinguished Leaders Dialogue Series — Dialogue on Financial Development today (26 February).

Dr the Honourable Joseph Yam Chi-kwong, Non-official Member of the Executive Council and Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, Chairman of the Council of Lingnan University were invited as panelists for the dialogue, and Professor Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University was the dialogue’s facilitator.  Focused on finance-related policies, financial infrastructure, regulatory issues, and the development of new financial products and services, they discussed how Hong Kong can enhance and strengthen its status as an international finance centre under the context of adjustment of the global economy and advancement of the Chinese economy to the central part of the international economic arena.

In his welcoming address, Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the 50th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Lingnan University in Hong Kong pointed out that financial service industry is the second biggest pillar of Hong Kong’s economy, and is the major momentum in promoting Hong Kong’s economic growth.  In recent years Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre faces different challenges.  “Today’s dialogue is honoured to have invited two elites from the financial sector including Dr Joseph Yam Chi-kwong, Non-official Member of the Executive Council and Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, Chairman of the Council of Lingnan University, as panelists.  Many scholars and members of the financial sector also joined us today.  I look forward to participants’ active exchange with the speakers, and deliberate together ideas and strategies for Hong Kong’s financial development.

The Distinguished Leaders Dialogue Series is one of the major events in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Lingnan University’s re-establishment in Hong Kong.  Starting from January 2018, distinguished leaders from different sectors are invited to share their insights in the dialogues on topics of public concern including education, financial development, housing for the youth, and creative arts and culture.
