Lingnan University receives book donations from the originator of Chinese martial arts novels Liang Yusheng

Dr. CHAN Wen-tung, the famous martial arts (Wuxia) novelist of the pen name LIANG Yusheng, has donated a full set of his works to his Alma Mater, Lingnan University. The collection comprises 32 publications in 87 volumes. Apart from his popular martial arts novels, other literary writings are also included, such as A Treasury of Famous Couplets (《名聯觀止》)and Essays on The Six Topics (《筆花六照》)a collection of Dr. Chan's articles published in Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas.

As a liberal arts university distinguished by its whole-person approach to education, Lingnan University dedicates much effort to equip students with language and communication skills. On the academic front, the University's Chinese Department is widely recognized for its academic achievements and standard. The donation by Dr. Chan will not only enrich the research resources for our students, but also promote the interest in reading among students.

Students from The University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong can also have the opportunity to admire Dr. Chan's great works through the Hong Kong Academic Library Link (HKALL).

Dr. Chan graduated from the Lingnan University in Guangzhou in 1949. He is one of a few Hong Kong writers who have earned a prominent place in the history of modern Chinese literature. Dr. Chan is also celebrated as one of the originators of contemporary Chinese martial arts novels. Throughout his career as a writer for over half a century, he has attained canonical stature in martial arts novels along with Jin Yong and Gu Long. In his narratives, various literary forms of writing are used, such as poems, verses, lyrics, proverbs and couplets, rendering his works high literary value.
