Lingnan University's Open Day on Coming Saturday
Lingnan University ("Lingnan" or "the University") will hold its Open Day on 21 October 2006 (Saturday), which provides a platform for both parents and matriculate students to learn more about the disciplines of the University before they make decisions in the approaching round of JUPAS.
This year, apart from programme introduction, seminars, exhibitions, book fair and campus tour, arts elements have been added to the Open Day to reinforce Lingnan's inter-disciplinary teaching and learning atmosphere. The "West Journey – Studio Visit", for example, allows visitors to meet with Lingnan's artist-in-residence Mr LAM Tung-pang being the first Chinese artist who have won the prestigious "Hunting Art Prizes Young Artist of the Year" award. Meanwhile, a Mini Exhibition of Famous Masterpieces and Selected Painting & Drawing Exhibition by Mr Marco Szeto will be held at the Art Gallery.
Apart from art appreciation, seminars on various topics are also highlights of the day, among which included seminars on university life and higher education development in Hong Kong, like "How to Study Effectively at Universities" by Dr HUI Po-keung, Department of Cultural Studies; "Chinese Literature and Higher Education in Hong Kong" by Prof XU Zidong, Department of Chinese; as well as "Progression Pathway for F.5 Students". Other activities included Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Inter-collegiate Basketball and Soccer Competition, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long District Secondary Schools Debate Competition, and game booths operated by the various student societies.
As the only liberal arts university in Hong Kong, Lingnan aims at developing students to be whole persons. The University emphasizes on training students' brainpower, analytical ability and creativity, and adopts flexible teaching and learning approach. Lingnan's programme design on Open Day is thus an illustration of Lingnan's rationale and unique liberal arts education ethos.
For easier access to the University, complimentary coach departed from Kowloon Tong and Central, and shuttle bus running between Parklane Square at Tuen Mun Town Centre and Lingnan are arranged.
