Lingnan University Hosts Information Day on 20 October

Lingnan University ("Lingnan" or "the University") will hold its Information Day 2007 on 20 October 2007 (Saturday) to introduce to matriculate students, parents, teachers and the public the University's hostel life as well as undergraduate, associate degree, pre-associate degree and continuing education programmes.

Apart from programme introduction, activities also include book fair, art exhibition, campus tour, debate competition and Jackie Chan Challenge Cup tournaments. Meanwhile, the studio of Lingnan's Artist-in-Residence will be open to the public.

Since last year, art elements have been added to the Information Day. This year, the University's Artist-in-Residence Mr LAW Man-lok will hold an exhibition "Spectacle in Lingnan" in his studio, showcasing the University's campus life from an artistic perspective. At the exhibition, visitors could see how Mr Law superimposes his artistic point of views on the interesting spectacles in Lingnan and understand more about the campus life at Lingnan. Together with his students, Mr Law will at the same time share with visitors his experience in the Artist-in-Residence Workshop and discuss the on-going projects.

Visitors can appreciate famous paintings in the University's Art Gallery, where the Visual Studies Programme will exhibit copies of masterpieces to illustrate the creative ideas of renowned artists. Among these masterpieces include the works by the Emperor Huizong of Song Dynasty, Gustav KLIMT, Edgar DEGAS, Pablo PICASSO and Salvador DALI.

Same as last year, a mini-book fair will be held at the University's library this year, giving book lovers an opportunity to explore their favorites from about 5,000 books, including reference books, text books, fictions, magazines and periodicals.

A number of scholars will deliver seminars on topics ranging from politics, culture, mental health to literature. Among these seminars include "One Country Two Systems and the Future of Hong Kong" by Dr WONG Yiu-chung, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science; "Democracy and Governance: A Philosophical Exploration" by Prof HO Lok-sang, Professor of Department of Economics; "Exploring Your Psychological Capital" by Prof SIU Oi-ling, Professor of the Department of Sociology and Social Policy; "Cinema, Drama, Writing" by Dr SHEN Shuang and Dr WONG Shuk-han, Assistant Professor of the Department of Chinese; as well as "Translation‧Culture‧Cultural Capital" by Dr Dorothy WONG Wai-yi, Assistant Professor of the Department of Translation.

The Information Day will be held from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Complimentary shuttle buses going between Parklane Square, Tuen Mun and Lingnan University will be available for visitors from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, visitors can also choose to come to Lingnan by the complimentary coaches departing at Hong Kong City Hall – High Block and Kowloon Tong MTR Station respectively every 30 minutes from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
