Lingnan University and Tongji University sign university-level MoU to strengthen cooperation in talent cultivation and research

Lingnan University welcomed a delegation led by Prof Zheng Qinghua, President of Tongji University, to its Tuen Mun campus on 27 November. The delegation met with Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, and Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing, and other senior members of the university management for discussions, and signed a university-level agreement.

President Qin welcomed President Zheng and his team warmly, and spoke enthusiastically of the strong, close relationship between Lingnan and Tongji, and comprehensive cooperation between the two universities.

Both parties signed the Student Exchange Agreement and the Framework Agreement between Tongji and Lingnan, which will enhance cooperation in talent development, research collaboration, and faculty exchange. These agreements will leverage the strengths of both institutions, foster academic research, and promote global perspectives, thereby enhancing exchanges and innovative research collaborations between faculty and students, and contributing significantly to national strategic objectives.

President Qin also spoke of Lingnan's history, its commitment to whole-person education, and its latest developments in digital transformation, campus development, talent acquisition, and internationalisation. He emphasised the importance of this collaboration with Tongji and hopes for concrete projects together in areas such as faculty exchange, joint doctoral programmes, and international academic forums.

President Zheng then thanked President Qin for his cordial reception, and said how inspired he is by Lingnan University’s rapid development. He is most impressed by Lingnan's resilient spirit and unique approach to education, described Lingnan as a distinguished institution with a profound cultural heritage and a promising future, and looks forward to fruitful collaboration with Lingnan in fields such as artificial intelligence, big data science, interdisciplinary studies, and the digital economy. President Zheng proposed establishing an inter-university talent exchange mechanism, and jointly creating research institutes to form an international platform for close collaboration and first-rate education.

Representatives from both universities discussed their strengths in academic disciplines and research.

During the visit, the Tongji delegation was taken on a campus tour arranged by the Office of Institutional Advancement and Public Affairs, which included a visit to the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall.
