Lingnan Fellow Prof Alain Bensoussan wins 2024 IEEE Control Systems Award

Prof Alain Bensoussan, a Lingnan Fellow at the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS), has received the 2024 IEEE Control Systems Award, presented at the 2024 Conference on Decision and Control held in Milan, Italy. Prof Bensoussan is known for his “fundamental contributions to stochastic control, control-theoretic methods in management and finance, and impactful leadership of scientific and engineering organisations.”

Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University, extended his congratulations, saying “I am delighted to share this exciting news with the Lingnan community. Prof Alain Bensoussan’s groundbreaking work in control systems engineering continues to inspire and drive innovation across multiple fields. His dedication to advancing knowledge and fostering international collaboration is truly commendable.”

The IEEE website compliments Prof Bensoussan on his extensive contributions: “Alain Bensoussan’s influential work in control systems engineering has had a major impact not only on science but on society at large. His theoretical achievements primarily concern the connection between stochastic control and partial differential equations, but he’s made significant contributions to many fields of applied mathematics and his discoveries have driven innovation throughout the real world, from finance to manufacturing. His stewardship of the National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA), French Space Agency (CNES), and the European Space Agency has been legendary. He founded and now heads UT Dallas’ International Centre for Decision and Risk Analysis.”

Prof Bensoussan is the Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair and the Director of International Centre for Decision and Risk Analysis (ICDRiA) at the University of Texas at Dallas, and was made a Lingnan Fellow in March 2024.
