Lingnan University holds Staff Communication Day and Staff Party 2025

Lingnan University held its Staff Communication Day and Staff Party 2025 today (14 February), bringing together staff members to learn about the University's latest developments and goals in the Year of the Snake, and to promote exchange and cohesion among Lingnanians.

Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing, Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning and Mr Ernest Chan Chi-man, Vice-President (Administration) attended the event.

In his opening remarks, President Qin said the University has always emphasised exchange and communication with staff, creating shared value, and expanding new opportunities while responding to the needs of the community with innovative research projects. “As Lingnan transformed into a comprehensive university in arts and sciences for the digital era, 2024 was a year marked by academic excellence, technology-driven education, pioneering research and innovation, and a focus on holistic student success. I would like to thank our Council and Court members, alumni, and all other stakeholders most sincerely for their ongoing support.”

Over the past year, Lingnan has appointed three new Vice-Presidents, and actively sought to attract distinguished research talents through their Lingnan-60 Global Talent Recruitment initiative. The University also signed strategic cooperation agreements with Rizhao City of Shandong Province, and key enterprises such as the Shandong Hi-Speed Group, and the Center of International Innovation for Technology and Science (CIITS), fostering collaborative efforts in technological innovation and showcasing Lingnan’s research capabilities. In response to the development of new disciplines and the annual increase in student enrolments, President Qin announced the University’s plans for its first dedicated science building, which will have advanced research offices and laboratories designed to enhance teaching and learning, saying “This initiative will contribute to Hong Kong’s vision of becoming an international hub for higher education.”

President Qin presented Long Service Awards to staff members who had completed their 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and 35th service milestones to recognise and commend their dedication and contributions. Prof Leng Mingming, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Chair Professor of Operations and Risk Management and Ms Wendy Lai Sau-wai, Director of Human Resources were given the Outstanding Service – Academic Staff Award and Outstanding Service - Administrative & General Grade Staff Award of the Dr and Mrs James Tak Wu Awards for Outstanding Service respectively. These awards recognise and reward their contributions to the University and the community over the years.

Staff members from different countries sang songs together, linking Lingnanians of diverse cultural backgrounds through music, and demonstrating their liberal working environment.
