Lingnan University Library signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fudan University Library at the Handan Campus, Fudan University, on 28 March 2025, marking their first collaborative agreement. This will foster a closer partnership, harness complementary strengths, and facilitate in-depth exchanges across many academic and professional domains.
The MoU signing ceremony took place in the presence of Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing of Lingnan University; Prof Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University; and Mr Shen Guolin, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of Fudan University. The agreement was signed by Dr Louisa Lam Mei-chun, Chief Information Officer and University Librarian of Lingnan University, and Prof Chen Yinchi, Chief Librarian of Fudan University Library, and provides a solid foundation for future collaboration.
According to the MoU, both libraries will collaborate in four key areas: professional exchanges between librarians, specialised training for library and information professionals, the joint organisation of cultural activities that benefit the personal growth of students from both universities, and the joint development and use of special collections and digital resources.
Prof Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University, described Fudan’s leading position in research and artificial intelligence to the guests, and expressed his hope that the two libraries will work closely together for the development of library and information services.
Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost at Lingnan University, said that he hopes this MoU will be a valuable opportunity for further cooperation with Fudan University, particularly in student exchanges, interdisciplinary curriculum design, and joint research projects.
After the signing ceremony, Dr Louisa Lam Mei-chun made a thematic presentation titled “Digital Transformation of Lingnan University Library: Technology Integration and Service Innovation” to the Fudan Library staff, concerning library space renovation, user-oriented modern management, and the service transformation driven by technology. She also discussed the challenges faced by libraries in recent years, and strategies to address them.
Dr Hou Liqiang, Deputy Director of Fudan University Library, and Ms Shi Weihua, Deputy Secretary of Fudan University Library, took the Lingnan University library staff to see the Special Collections Center, the Humanities Library, the Jiangwan Library, and the Medical Science Library, where they spoke at length with the personnel, and exchanged stories about their work and experiences. They plan to promote cooperation, particularly in the library and in digital communication. Lingnan University also invited their colleagues from Fudan to visit the Lingnan campus.
