Lingnan University Science Unit celebrates its 10th anniversary with an interdisciplinary exhibition – “Think Outside the Box”

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Science Unit (SU) of Lingnan University, the SU is holding an exciting interdisciplinary exhibition “Think Outside the Box”. The opening ceremony was yesterday, 4 September, at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery, and scientists had collaborated with artists to present their ceramics, photography, illustrations, installations, and more. The exhibition will certainly be a very special celebration of the Science Unit’s research over the past ten years.
Guests included Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Acting President and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing; Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning; Prof Chen Xi, Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Chair Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies; Mr Augustine Lui Ngok-che, Chairman of Lingnan Education Organization; Prof Paulina Wong Pui-yun, Head and Associate Professor (Presidential Early Career Scholar) of the Science Unit; Prof Jonathan Fong, Associate Dean (Administration and Education) of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Associate Professor of Science Unit; and Yiu Chun-yin, a student from the Master of Arts in Curating and Art History programme.
For this mutifaceted journey, 11 scholars from the SU selected topics based on their own areas of interest in Hong Kong’s ecological issues, including sustainability, urban development, and ecosystem research in terrestrial, marine, and freshwater habitats. Seika Studio then paired each scholar with an artist, and they worked together to explore these local environmental concerns.
The exhibition is open to the public from today, 5 September, and key events will include educational seminars and hands-on workshops.
