Lingnan University Faculty of Business Alumni Association (LUFBAA) holds its inaugural ceremony in Shenzhen

The Lingnan University Faculty of Business Alumni Association (LUFBAA) held its official inaugural ceremony on 25 October 2025 in Shenzhen, marking the launch of a new platform dedicated to uniting and advancing the global Lingnan business alumni community.

Guided by Lingnan University’s motto "Education for Service", and the ceremony’s theme "Lingnan Devotion, Joint Prosperity", LUFBAA will foster connections among alumni across disciplines and industries, and facilitate sharing knowledge and experience, uphold the values of a liberal arts education, and provide a springboard for professional growth, collaboration, and collective success.

The audience was made up of university management, industry experts, and alumni, and welcome remarks were delivered by Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University; Prof Leng Mingming, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Chair Professor of Operations and Risk Management; and Mr Liu Xin, President of LUFBAA. There were three keynote speakers: Prof Huang Hui, Prof Witman Hung, and Mr He Weixi, and also in attendance were Ms Jessie Law, Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Affairs (OIAAA), and Ms Ivy Shen, Head of the Office of National Engagement (ONE), who both expressed their support and congratulations for LUFBAA.

In his address, President Qin highlighted Lingnan University’s recent achievements, including plans for new campus facilities and the University’s development blueprint for the future. He emphasised that "strong alumni make a strong alma mater, and a strong alma mater empowers its alumni."  Prof Leng warmly welcomed alumni "back home," noting that "tonight marks a milestone in the history of the Faculty of Business."

President Qin and Prof Leng presented appointment plaques to ten members of the LUFBAA Board, and then, led by Mr Liu Xin and watched by all the guests, the Board affirmed its commitment to the development of the Lingnan University Faculty of Business.

The highlight of the ceremony was the official inauguration. After a resounding countdown, the Lingnan University Faculty of Business Alumni Association was formally announced, representing the eternal inheritance of the Lingnan spirit. In his inauguration speech, Mr Liu Xin, the first President of LUFBAA, outlined three strategic priorities for the Association: building an "emotional bond" among alumni, establishing an "empowerment platform", and preserving the "Lingnan spirit".

The exceptional performance of the Faculty of Business DBA student team at the 20th Xuanzang Road Business School Gobi Challenge held in early October was pointed out. Over four days and three nights, the team completed a demanding 121km journey, epitomising the resilience and courage of the Lingnanians’ red and grey spirit, and won the Shackleton Award (Team).

The original song “Lingnan Style” was also sung at the ceremony, and a poem, “Congratulating the Establishment of the Lingnan University Faculty of Business Alumni Association”, recited by our alumni, conveying a deep affection for the alma mater and high expectations for the Association.

Representatives of event sponsors Luzhou Laojiao and Liying Lizhulan International Medical Group extended warm wishes and congratulations on the founding of LUFBAA, adding distinction to the celebration.

The establishment of LUFBAA opens a new chapter in the collaborative development of Lingnan alumni. Looking ahead, the Association will launch specialised branches in finance, education, and sport to build a robust, supportive network for alumni engagement and growth. As President Liu Xin declared, “Walking alone is fast, but walking together is far.” LUFBAA will be the vessel, and the Lingnan spirit will be the sail that drive all Lingnanians to unite in devotion to Lingnan towards a bright, shared future.
