Lingnan University holds its 56th Congregation

Lingnan University is holding its 56th Congregation on 4 and 5 December, presided over by Ms Carrie Leung Ka-lai, Treasurer of the Council. Before the Congregation commenced, Lingnan University held a one-minute silence to mourn those who lost their lives in the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire, as a solemn expression of condolence.

This year, Lingnan University conferred degrees on 4,066 graduates, of whom 901 were undergraduates, 3,125 Masters, 33 Doctors, and 197 postgraduate diploma holders. One hundred and ninety graduates were awarded both a Master of Accountancy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy.

In his address, Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, extended his heartfelt congratulations to all graduating students, saying “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in your lives, and I hope you will face future challenges with courage, confidence and intellectual curiosity.  In the period of accelerated digital transformation, Lingnan’s holistic education has equipped graduates to think critically and behave ethically, offering not only challenges but also an abundance of opportunities waiting to be seized. As we enter a transformative era that is reshaping industries and everyday life, technology—particularly Artificial Intelligence—has advanced from a powerful tool to becoming a catalyst that empowers individuals to realise their creative capabilities and achieve their full potential. I encourage Lingnan graduates to make full use of the AI literacy you have developed at Lingnan, as it will empower you to navigate a rapidly changing world and emerge as the next generation of leaders on the global stage.”

President Qin encouraged graduates to embrace lifelong learning, and keep our motto, “Education for Service”, at the forefront of their journey. He also urged graduates to present Lingnan’s “Red and Grey” spirit, to make a positive impact by tackling genuine societal issues, and to shape a brighter future for themselves and the community.
