Lingnan University confers four honorary fellowships

Lingnan University held its Honorary Fellowship Presentation Ceremony today, 19 January. The Hon Andrew Yao Cho-fai, Council Chairman of Lingnan University, conferred honorary fellowships upon four distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding professional achievements and valuable contributions to the community and to education.

This year’s four honorary fellows are The Hon Ronick Chan Chun-ying (陳振英議員), BBS, JP; The Hon Ip Kwok-him (葉國謙先生), GBM, GBS, JP; Mr Lam Tin-fuk (林天福先生), GBS, JP (in absentia); and Mr Ng Leung-sing (吳亮星先生), SBS, JP.

In his address on behalf of the honorary fellows, Mr Ng Leung-sing said that he was deeply honoured, and that “Mr Ip Kwok-him has dedicated his life to education, supporting countless students. In the social services, he served as a district councillor in the Central and Western District for decades, four terms as a Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress, and he was a member of the Legislative Council and a non-official member of the Executive Council. Mr Lam Tin-fuk was an administrative officer in the Hong Kong Government, and Chief Executive of both the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Airport Authority. Mr Chan Chun-ying has long been involved in the banking industry, and is currently a member of the Legislative Council. All three have contributed greatly to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.”

He added “Lingnan University has a long and distinguished history. Having weathered the changes of different eras, it remains vibrant, and the Lingnan spirit is epitomised by passion, loyalty, and perseverance. Lingnanians throughout the world maintain this spirit with enthusiasm and dedication, and all four of us are proud to be Lingnanians and look forward to working together for the University in the future. Having served as a member of the Council and the Court of Lingnan University, I know that Lingnan follows a student-centred teaching model, emphasising close faculty-student relationships and interactive teaching to cultivate students’ logical thinking and analytical independent research expertise. That is the holistic liberal arts philosophy advocated and practised by Lingnan University. On behalf of myself and the other three Honorary Fellows, I sincerely wish Lingnan continued progress, and the ability to nurture outstanding talents for Hong Kong and produce a multitude of outstanding alumni.”
