Lingnan University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hefei University of Technology on 27 January on the Lingnan campus. At the ceremony, Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University and Prof Wang Meng, President of the Hefei University of Technology, signed a university-level MoU on behalf of the two universities, witnessed by representatives from both institutions, and marking the beginning of close collaboration between the two universities in academic and student exchanges, scientific research, talent cultivation, and academic resources.

 

President Qin said “Lingnan University is committed to developing into a leading liberal arts research university comprehensive in arts and sciences in the digital era, and has continuously promoted interdisciplinary teaching and research as well as innovative education in artificial intelligence in recent years. The Hefei University of Technology has achieved remarkable competencies in engineering technology, and scientific research and development. We are truly honoured to establish this partnership with the Hefei University of Technology, and look forward to realising our complementary strengths through mutual visits by faculty and students, collaborative research, and joint curriculum development. We shall also warmly welcome more students from the Hefei University of Technology to pursue further studies at Lingnan.”

 

President Wang thanked Lingnan for their warm reception, saying “The Hefei University of Technology greatly values exchanges and cooperation with higher education institutions in Hong Kong and Macao. We hope to further expand our international collaboration thanks to Lingnan’s excellent platform. Lingnan University not only has a strong foundation in liberal arts education, but has also accomplished a great deal in big data and artificial intelligence in recent years, and has attracted a most impressive faculty.”

 

Representatives from both universities discussed cooperation and future projects, key topics being the integration of artificial intelligence with interdisciplinary studies, the digital transformation of traditional humanities and social sciences, student exchange programmes, and the joint cultivation of postgraduate and doctoral students. The Hefei delegation toured the Lingnan University campus and the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative for further insights into the University's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
